The biological effectiveness of the proteins in the specialized product "Ovolact" in the nutrition of patients following reconstructive surgery on jaw bones with congenital deformities]

Postoperative feeding with a special-purpose foodstuff Ovolact proved superior to tube feeding in patients on after treatment following surgical correction of congenital jaw defects. This was evident from assessment of anthropometric and protein metabolism parameters. Nitrogen metabolism underwent positive changes reflecting the product value for maintenance of protein status of the above patients. Therefore, Ovolact can make more effective postoperative rehabilitation in jaw reconstruction.     

Prospects of the use of beta-carotene enriched food products in the prevention and therapy of radiation injuries]

Radio-protective effectiveness of short-term (19 and 4 h before, 4 and 24 h after irradiation), long-term (3 times/week during 30 days after irradiation) and delayed (1 or 2 days after irradiation) enrichment with crystallized beta-carotene, in single doses of 0.1, 1.0 or 5.0 mg was evaluated in experimental acute external gamma-irradiation (0.029 Gy/sec) within the range of absorbed doses 9--6 Gy. The results obtained have permitted the authors to recommend the ration enriched with carotinoid for prevention and therapy of acute radiation injuries.     

Complete transformer model for electromagnetic transients

A complete, three phase transformer model for the calculation of electromagnetic transients is presented. The model consists of a set of state equations solved with the trapezoidal rule of integration in order to obtain an equivalent Norton circuit at the transformer terminals. Thus the transformer model can be easily interfaced with an electromagnetic transients program. Its main features are: (a) the basic elements for the winding model are the turns; (b) the complete model includes the losses due to eddy currents in the windings and in the iron core; and (c) the solution of the state equations is obtained in decoupled iterations. For validation, the frequency response of the model is compared with tests on several transformers. Applications to the calculation of transients are given for illustration     

A conventional conditioning analysis of "transitive inference" in pigeons.

As an alternative to a symbolic interpretation of transitivity in the discriminative performance of pigeons, a modified reinforcement theory (value transfer theory) was proposed by L. von Fersen et al (see record 1991-29523-001). Its novel assumption was that the value of the negative member of a pair of stimuli with which an animal is trained is enhanced by the value of the positive member of the pair. In this article, that assumption is shown to be unnecessary. All of the transitivity data for pigeons can be simulated with a simple conditioning model developed for honeybees that retains the conventional independence assumption.
